Omgång 5

Seriehelg 5, 2012-01-14

Division 1 Norra

Joakim Hellgren - Daniel Harrison 3-0 rtd

Johan Svensson - Truls Olterman 7/11 7/11 3/11
Stundtals bra spel, men Johan orkade inte riktigt hålla uppe spelet när duellerna blev lite längre.

Lars Olsson - Mattias Kallio 7/11 10/12 9/11

Joakim Hellgren - Bobo Af Ekenstam 11/8 11/8 7/11 9/11 11/4

Lars Olsson - Peter Hernberg 11/8 4/11 12/10 9/11 11/9

Division 2 Norra

Spelplats: Enskede rackethall

The first team victory of the season for the Västerås second team!!

Västerås SC 2 - IKSU-squash  1-2

Patrik Löwestedt 3 vs Paul Nyren 1
The former SSK player Paul was always going to struggle against the rugged Patrik. In cruise controlfor the first two, the hard-hitting Västeråsare had a small blip in the third, which was put right in thefourth. A great start for the team and some great stuff from Patrik. He played solidly and never triedto force it when under pressure. To not panic when 2-0 became 2-1, shows a strong character. Patrikis definitely a very very strong number 3, which he could no doubt rise to higher in the team if calledupon.

Fredrik ‘Octofred’ Pettersson 0 vs Niklas Eriksson 3
A tough ask of the octopus. A very athletic and strong Niklas was firing on all cylinders as the slightlyrusty captain was just off the mark in the first game. Octofred came out stronger in the next twogames, but went down 3-0. By no means a disgrace as Niklas played very well. The long-limbedvästerås player would get his revenge and his victory in the second match of the day.

Christer Eidenbrandt 0 vs Daniel Eriksson 3
My my, this was a very strong number 1 for the IKSU team, a former top 40 player, who to be honest,is playing somewhere near that standard gave Christer a real challenge. Daniel, a hard-hitting solidlefty, had some lightning fast reflexes with great touch set an incredibly high pace for Christer tolive up to. The Västerås number one never gave up and was ahead in the third, but a player with hisopponents fitness and ability was always going to fight and gradually pulled away to take it 3-0. Afantastic effort and shots in the third for Christer- he relaxed and had a little more belief in the third, which showed in his performance. Speaking with our number 1 afterwards, we both agreed thatthese matches were the memorable ones, to play real quality players always puts a smile on yourface, win or lose. Note, I have the clip of the last shot by Daniel- A forehand (left handed remember)crosscourt-lob, which landed plum in nick, just an absolute peach of a nick actually.

The 2-1 scoreline was quite reflective of the quality of the IKSU team. No shame to lose in thismanner, as all 3 players gave it their all. I personally believed it sharpened up the players for the nextmatch against the home team, Enskede 2.

Västerås SC 2 - Enskede SC2  2-1

VICTORY!!!!!!! We got it, finally a couple of real winning points……great effort by everyone in theteam.

Patrik Löwestedt 3 vs Mattias Bjurström 1
At the start of the match Patrik would have not settled for this score, but come the end he was more
than happy. I can honestly say (and I hope he won’t mind me saying) that Patrik was never going tolose this match, but I think he started to lose a bit of confidence when the unexpected happened, with Mattias taking the second, much to the surprise of, well everyone actually. I can be a little harshon Patrik as I know what quality he has, but we both agreed he was a little ‘flat’. Now let’s not forgotthe effort the similarly tall Enskede player put in, a true Viking performance if I may so. Mattias gaveeverything but couldn’t quite dominate a slightly frustrated Patrik. Neverless the Västerås playershowed his worth, to win when ‘struggling’ really highlights the ability of the number 3. So 2 out of 2for Patrik, something that should be noted. ’Great effort’ would be a perfect summary.

Fredrik ‘Octofred’ Pettersson 3 vs David Braithwaite 0
One comedian againt one 8 armed machine. A great performance by Octofred, I mean really great. To give you an idea of the effort required by poor David to keep up, his comment after the secondgame ‘I’m playing Superman’……Keep in mind David is not a push over. I definitely rate his play, hemoves well and hits the ball very well, has a nice squash style but was just forced to work so hard inthis match. Octofred really mopped up any loose ball, just one step and bang, working his opponenthard. Some long rallies had David bent over in two, sucking all the air he could muster. There wasonly one winner after the first game, a truly inspiring performace from a very entertaining match.I’ve posted a youtube clip of Octofred taking the ball off the back wall through his legs, to go on andwin the rally, great stuff.

Christer Eidenbrandt 1 vs Sasa Galic 3
A great effort from Christer who almost pipped the Croatian. Four very close games, which couldhave gone either way. Sasha played very well in the second, just taking the ball so early and hittinga shed load of low killers, which in the third Christer responded to just brilliantly. As soon as ournumber 1 stepped up the pace, which at this level is tough to do, he just sneaked ahead. The fourthwas close, again Christer was in the lead up until 8 points, then was just edged out 11-9. What wasgreat to see was the effort put in by the Västerås player. He came off court dripping with sweat andran his legs into the ground: exactly what the top player should do. Today he played two players whoagain on paper were ranked significantly higher, but with his performances, especially in the secondmatch, you wouldn’t know it. Some great pressure from our number 1, showed what he is reallycapable of doing. Next time the luck will swing in our direction, together with a couple of points.

Overall, a well contested day: what was important for me to see was the effort by everyone, eitherwin or lose. Today we showed why we deserved the three points, the most we have won in a singlesitting all season. Patrik’s two wins, Octofreds between the legs shot and Christer’s never say dieattitude are my personal highlights.

Mike ‘chicken legs’.
